Here comes the New Year! Our iron has become older, and you and I have become wiser for another year. Let the new year be for all of us a year of discoveries, joy, success, and bring the fulfillment of our cherished desires!
Last year we lost a lot of retro resources, so I wish all of us that in the new year there will be more retro sites, retro computer clubs, new channels about retro PCs on YouTube, new names and high-quality developments that captivate us so much.
This year we have learned how to shoot down asteroids (change their trajectory), delved into the technical process of manufacturing chips, new communication standards and protocols have appeared. Science has always stood and stands guard over the interests of mankind, so let 2023 be a happy year for all the people of our planet! I sincerely congratulate all of you, wish you happiness, health and prosperity to you and your loved ones!

Go, I created! Your school years! (12/25/2022)

A retro gaming club has been opened in Moscow. Dedicated to everyone who skipped school in the late 1990s and early 2000s, hanging out in the immortal hits of Warcraft, Counter Strike and other worms and Cossacks.
An attack of nostalgia will be provided by bulky monitors and an impressive collection of gaming antiques. As a bonus, there is a corner with replicas of Sega Genesis and Nintendo consoles connected to CRT TVs. Already "old school" reduces.

Back to the past: Quake III Arena - Legend's birthday! (12/02/2022)

On December 2, 1999, Quake III: Arena was born. It is noteworthy that for the first time in the series, the developers completely abandoned the single-player campaign, directing all their efforts to create a multiplayer mode. The Quake III engine proved to be flexible enough to lead to many custom modifications. With the release of Quake III, the concept of "eSports" finally took root. By mixing all the best from the previous parts, Quake III: Arena has become an ideal esports discipline. The third part of the legendary game series had everything - speed, impressive graphics, in-game balance.
Quake III still looks modern and dynamic, and is one of my kids' favorite games. Happy anniversary, friends. Let's remember the good old Quake in the evening battle!

Quake III Arena: an unplanned battle with an unknown warrior (11/27/2022)

Yesterday evening, when my children sat down to play at their computers, an unknown warrior came to our server. He fought with my boys. It was fun to watch this confrontation. I filmed this moment and posted the video on YouTube channel. Maybe that nameless warrior, after watching the video, recognizes himself.

Disturbing information about our friends (11/22/2022)

Unfortunately, the administration of the site OLD-DOS.ru has problems that may threaten its closure. The problem lies in the practical impossibility of paying for server hosting (which is located in Germany) from Russia. As the authors pointed out in their message dated November 17: "If one day you do not see the site on the network for a long time - alas, it means that we have been completely crushed." This is of course very sad. Unfortunately, from time to time we are visited by such news about the closure of the next retro archive. No politics, all the best, comrades.

Plans to launch the next one server in November - It will be CS (11/04/2022)

In the near future, the organization of the launch of the Counter-Strike server for retro clients is planned. I'm currently trying to decide on a version, the main ones I'm leaning towards are 1.3 and 1.6. Each of them is an era of the gaming industry, many retro gamers have fond memories of each. As soon as I determine the version and find a stable distribution, I will notify you about the launch of the server and the possibility of co-op play. I think that for such cases it is necessary to provide for the possibility of voting on the site, but for now, write your wishes in the feedback form in the "Contacts" section.

The server has been moved to a new platform (10/17/2022)

My friends, I have completed a lot of work on building and setting up a new server! Now my site is running on a new (but still retro) server. Now we have multi-core, RAID array, gigabit networks. Of the changes - the transition from IIS to Apache server. I'm sorry if the two-day transition caused you problems accessing individual files or articles. While the server is running in test mode, but I think soon the connection of PHP, new modules and features. I will try to implement some of my WEB applications on it for your convenience.

The quarrelsome Windows Millennium celebrates a birthday (09/14/2022)

22 years ago, September 14, 2000, was released a new operating system from Microsoft - Windows Millennium Edition. ME included the Internet Explorer 5.5, Windows Media Player 7.0, and Windows Movie Maker is a simple video editor. Other innovations include System Restore, system file protection (Windows File Protection), support for automatic Windows Update.
The OS included the last version of MS-DOS ever released - 8.0, which, however, could not be launched independently (which, however, was corrected by third-party utilities).
The system has been heavily criticized for many bugs and generally received a negative user reviews.
