“Made with love”: ratings of the Tomb Raider trilogy remasters - 79 points out of 100 on Metacritic

Tomb Raider I, II, III remastered

Compared to the originals, the game has received many improvements, both graphically and functionally. Tomb Raider I-III Remastered on all platforms allows you to switch between original and enhanced graphics at any time. Enhanced mode gives games sharper textures, additional 3D elements, improved lighting, and increased viewing range. Characters and enemies have more detailed models and facial animations.

Games on the new consoles run in 4K resolution. It is important that in classic and advanced modes the game maintains a stable 60 frames per second, without crashes. But in Classic mode, you can notice "variable frame rates" which is due to the code of the original games.

Responsibly improving the classic Lara Croft adventures, Aspyr Media can be pleased with itself. The game received decent ratings in the main gaming ratings.

Reviews of the Tomb Raider I-II-III Remastered collection appeared a day before the release. The average score for the remasters on Metacritic was 79 out of 100, based on 10 reviews.

Reviewers reported that the developers of the remasters did not come up with anything extra from themselves, but carefully updated the trilogy in its original form. Most journalists liked it. According to them, the classic parts of Tomb Raider offer a very special gameplay experience that cannot be found in modern games. So, the players are not led by the hand and are not shown where to run and what buttons to press - you have to guess everything yourself.

The developers have perfectly updated the trilogy visually. The authors of the remasters found the right balance between classic and modern artistic styles. In some locations you can notice that the quality of the textures was improved using neural networks, but this does not spoil the overall picture much. In addition, games have the ability to quickly switch to original graphics.

Journalists called one of the main disadvantages of the collection not the most convenient controls. Additionally, some reviewers would like to see more gameplay improvements that would make the trilogy more playable for modern players.

Tomb Raider I-III Remastered will be released on February 14, 2024 on PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4 and Nintendo Switch.
